The Legend of the DON-KAY!!!!!

Flashback...
Two years ago at Christmas time my Mom and I were shopping or something, I can't even really remember, but she got me this Christmas Cookie Cutter of "The Legend of the Donkey" in reference to the birth of Christ. (Side note- a pretty cute little story.) Well, for several weeks I would walk around the house saying, "The Legend of the DON-KAY", you know, in that deep movie-type commentary voice. And you can't just say- donkey- it is DON-KAY. You also have to bob your head around in just the right way from one side to the other so the words come out just so. It is really a work of art that can be perfected by just the right individual! Now this little show I put on for weeks on end really drove Sam nuts, but it made my Mom and Pops laugh- especially Crazy Mari- so how could I help but not repeat it over and over and over and...you get the picture.

This brings us to today...
So I started craving sugar cookies a few days ago and found this recipe- I DID call Mom for hers, but she never called back- tisk tisk woman! Well, I found this other recipe on the net and it said it was a thick sugar cookie recipe- the only problem was that it made 8 dozen. Well, I decided I would do it anyways because I really wanted thick cookies (my fav). I started making them and realized I needed 7 cups of flour. I only had 4. In my genious state I decided to use Bisquick Baking Mix instead. Not really a good choice I don't think. I used my DON-KAY cookie cutter for the first time and not ONE SINGLE DON-KAY turned out!!! Some were totally my fault- ya those really dark brown ones- that was a whoops that I forgot in the oven as I was cleaning.

The moral of the story...
If you decide to live out that dream of making your favorite DON-KAY cookies, be smart- lower your pride and go ask the neighbor for 3 cups of flour, or go to the store, or check your supplies first! It really is that simple, if only I had learned that first! Oh well, I WILL attempt the DON-KAY cookies again, although I will not use Bisquick Baking Mix and I will watch my timer better- maybe even set two. I suppose it just wasn't meant to be this time around.

See you soon DON-KAY!!!

Beth, I was laughing so hard...this is something I would so do. Flour & bisquick seem fairly similar in texture...what could go wrong? Tee hee!
