While coming home from my hubbies birthday lunch yesterday I spotted a fire in someone's yard. Being the unfamiliar person I am with controlled fires, I asked Samuel what they were doing, thinking for some strange reason this must be one of those controlled fires. He didn't know, so I suggested we go over to the house. When we got there Sam realized it was a grass fire and jumped out of the car and started stomping it out. (See Sam stomp...thank God for Camera phones!) It was about a 7 foot diameter circle and was growing pretty quickly with trees all around, so I decided to stomp away in my heals and do my deed. We were successful, so Sam went up to the resident's home to see if they were inside. They were not home. I then called 911 to report the fire and they sent the Fire Dept. out right away. As Sam and I stood there, sparks flew from the wires above the house and we saw that the fire was started from a tree branch that grew into the overhead wires! I wasn't exactly sure what to do, so before we called 911 I wrote a little note to the residents of the home. Sam took one look at it and said we couldn't leave it- it was written on a napkin (clean of course!)... Hey- what was I supposed to say? (See scan of napkin note.) I thought it was straight to the point! Anyhow, after the Fire Dept came, more sparks kept flying all over (See pic of firemen and Sam looking up) and we were given the go ahead to leave along with a nice pat-on-the-back for doing our civic duty. Hooray! Yeah for saving
