Samuel's Promotion

Yesterday we were able to celebrate Sam's promotion to Captain. Sam's Parent's, Sister and Brother-in-Law and their kids came to celebrate with us all. Tom and Ryan pinned on Sam and I "helped" although they really didn't need it. It was a really nice ceremony and Sam even suprised his Mom, Kim and I with flowers! The photo below is of Tom, Ryan and Michelle. Grandpa piled them all into the tree chair and they decided they would pose for a photo shot for Aunt Beth!

Poppin' Belly

This is the photo I tried to get up the other day, but couldn't. I think it is funny how my belly just looks like someone put a pillow in it. It seems like I have just "popped" overnight! Everyone said that is what would happen, and it sure did! It is kind of hard to tell in this pic, so I will add more later in the week.

Heartbroken (and feeling sorry for myself...whaa whaa)

For years I have been watching and admiring the work of an unbeliveably talented photographer named Jennifer Loomis. (You MUST go to her site and check out her EXTRORDINARY work!) Well, she does some amazing work for pregnancy photography and I always thought I would want her to do mine. I have modeled some of my pregnancy photography after her, although I am no where near her caliber of existence.

So, when Sam and I found out that I am preggo a little sooner then expected, it wasn't exactly in the budget. I called anyways to find out what it would cost. Here are the details: we have the option of going to Seattle, NY or San Francisco (obviousely we would go to San Fran) although on my most recent phone call from Jennifer herself, found out that she will be in Estes Park around the time I would have the shoot done. The problem- $2000. Yea, $2 Grand for the shoot and about a dozen 4 x 6's. I am so crushed. Those of you who know me well enough know what this would mean. It isn't very often that I wish I had "more" in life because I am so very blessed with everything I have, which is so much more then I could ever imagine, but right now I wish our tax bracket was in a higher place! So, maybe I should start selling some crazy things on eBay like a dirty sock or 13" french fry. (Both items have sold on eBay for over $2 Grand...crazy hugh??) Anyone have some nutzo things for me to sell...I'll try it! Let's get creative here!

Some quote's from some of her clients...
"This was an experience we will remember for the rest of our lives. If I could only say one word to sum up Jennifer it would be PASSION. I have never met someone who is more passionate about what they do for a living. It certainly comes across in her work. Thanks!"
Rob & Emily, Livonia, MI

"Jennifer, what drew me to you was not only that I really liked your work, but also I liked knowing that you have worked and photographed so many different populations of mothers around the world — from Kenyan and Rwandan women, to Japanese midwives and their clients."
Sharlet, single professional and first-time mother

"What a great experience! I felt so special. Jennifer made me feel so at ease and able to enjoy and embrace these few moments put aside to document this special time in our lives."
Susan Strube Sandberg, Davis, CA

About Jennifer..
Jennifer Loomis is an award-winning and internationally recognized photojournalist and fine-art photographer known for her groundbreaking work with the pregnant nude. Jennifer got her start photographing pregnant women after a referral from Annie Liebovitz’s studio — where Demi Moore was photographed pregnant for Vanity Fair. Since she began working 15 years ago, Jennifer has photographed more than 1000 mothers, including the wife of pro-golfer Rich Beem among other celebrities.
Identified in 2003 as one of the emerging photographers of the northwest, Jennifer uses her training as a fine art photographer and her expertise as a documentary photojournalist to tell the story of each woman. "More than a portrait, I want to photograph a feeling that captures and celebrates each individual woman's beauty of motherhood," she said in a recent interview with Sunset Magazine. Her business motto "Feel Beautiful" came about because many women said they felt beautiful during and after photo shoots. This saying is important to Jennifer because she is passionate about changing the way pregnant women see their bodies as well as the way society sees pregnant women.
The passion shows through in both her photography and professionalism. "I have always wanted to make a difference with my photography," says Jennifer. She's not only a pioneer in pregnancy photography but she's been instrumental in bringing semi-nude photography into the mainstream. "For years pregnant women have been hidden, I hope my work can challenge and redefine society's definition of beauty. Just look at the pictures, and you can see the beauty that has always been there."
Not only do Jennifer's photos capture the beauty of each woman, but they also have the look and feel of a painting. Most of her clients frame the images and hang them like art found in a gallery. "My clients are embracing their bodies," Jennifer says, "and together, using my experience, we are creating a unique photograph which not only becomes part of their art collection but also reminds them of this brief moment in time."
Creating art and making women feel beautiful is Jennifer's specialty. Her personable style helps each client feel comfortable, even when this is for many their first nude or semi-nude sitting. "I felt more beautiful during and after working with Jennifer," says Lindsey, a client from San Francisco, "than I did during my entire pregnancy. I never thought I could look so good or feel so comfortable. Just her personality, who she was, made me connect with her right away." Every photo session starts with tea, a brief yoga pose, and a lengthy discussion about the photography to come. She is listening to their stories, getting to know them, so she can better photograph them and their changing emotions.
For Jennifer, she gets as much out of it as her clients. "I get women hugging me because they are so excited. I get dads crying in the studio because their wives look so beautiful. I get great relationship stories. I get a lot!" she told the Seattle Times reporter.
To keep her work fresh, Jennifer breaks away to do documentary work all over the world. Jennifer's work has taken her to Japan, Indonesia, Thailand, Nepal, Mongolia, Singapore, Rwanda, Tanzania, Kenya, Norway, Sweden, Estonia, Denmark and many cities within the United States. She also studies Iyengar Yoga, loves costume parties, buys original art, and contributes to many charities and fundraisers around the world.
Jennifer has a masters in photojournalism from the University of Missouri, School of Journalism. She has studied with Joyce Tenneson, Michelle LeVigne, and her biggest influence is San Francisco photographer Ruth Bernhard. She was a Visual Communications Fellow at the Poynter Institute for Media Studies for six weeks and then returned for two consecutive years as a Visual Communications Faculty Member. In addition, she has taught at the University of Missouri, School of Journalism, Cascades Photography Academy, and was a guest teacher at the Frye Art Museum of Seattle during their Women and the Arts Program. She also teaches classes and workshops throughout the year at her studio in Seattle and San Francisco.
Jennifer has focused on many international women's health and education issues for a wide range of editorial and non profit clients including Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, MSNBC.com, Nikon, CARE International, TIME Magazine, Catholic Community Services, Washington Education Foundation, University of Washington's Center for Health Education and Research, Rainier Scholars, U.S. News & World Report, Los Angeles Times, JournalE, The Humanist, Kansas City Star, Evansville Courier. She has produced several online documentary photo projects with audio and video including several projects on birth and home birth. These projects are available on the Web.

Sammy is M-A-D!!!

Dear hard working Sam is so sad and mad and angry and frusterated, and yada yada yada... We were out in the backyard looking around today and I discovered an awful situation! Something is eating out vegetable garden! Sam built two raised beds that we planted radishes, onions, corn, beans, peppers, carrots, etc. in. I told him we just need to go out and buy some netting/ fence to put up around the garden. We don't know what it is that might be eating it. The two things that were eaten were the onions- all of them- and a couple stalks of corn. The brown dirt looking pic is the onion remains and the other is obviously corn. The last photo is a full shot of Sam's pride and joy- both gardens flourshing. I think the culprit might be a fox- I saw a fox run in our backyard one night last year. I guess it could be a squirrel - probably more likely- but I like to think of it being something crazy like a fox. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions? Let us know!

Evolution of Dance

This is my husband! I think this guy stole Sam's moves!!!

Last Weekend and This Weekend!

I realized that I didn't post about last weekend's trip to the crab shack with Shawn and Lindsey...we had a great time and the food was fantastic! Not for me, but for everyone else. I have realized that I don't have a taste for scallops. Hopefully that will come back after the babe arrives! I used to LOVE scallops! We did have a great time anyways! Then on Sunday we went to the Taste of Fort Collins and heard the BoDeans. That brought back alot of memories for both Sam and I since they are a Wisconsin band and we listened to them all through college. (They sang the theme song for Party of 5--Closer to Free)

That brings me to THIS weekend! I included some great pics of my love tending to the garden. We have some beautiful peonies that we decided to bring in the house- Sam is handing them to me to smell because they are so sweet.

Then there is a pic of me in the chair- boy am I popping! That belly just keeps getting bigger and bigger! Whoa! (Ok- I just can not get this photo on...maybe I will try it on another post.) Saturday am Tammi, Tanner Evan and I went garage saling. No luck for me, but that's okay! I didn't really know what I was looking for- nothing really! It was fun hopping around town with them and then having lunch at Culvers!

Saturday night we decided to go to the Monster Truck Show in Cheyenne and at the last minute had everyone come over to the house before we left and grilled up some shish kabobs. Everyone got decked out in their "red-neck" garb and we had a great time! The show itself was a bit of a let-down, but we made the best of it!! Sunday was Father's Day. Happy Father's Day Dad, Larry and Sammy-to-be! ;) We worked around the house, a lot! Then went to Lowe's and Culver's for dinner! (Twice in a weekend!) Sam even got a free custard sunday for being a father-to-be. See honey, the perks are starting already! :)

Technology...ugh!

**Update** Technology is a wonderful thing- but sometimes it is such my foe! I tried to update the blog this AM and I couldn't get the photo's up. Then I thought I would post the words anyways and put a note about not being able to get the photo's on and that I would get them on later. Well, when I went to post the verbage, it showed that it wouldn't be able to post. ok- great. SO---I went to my Doc apt in Fort Collins and headed on over to Panera Bread to get some breakfast after the apt. Remembered that there is WiFi at Panera--gotta love it--so brought in the laptop. Checked my e-mail and Kim posted a note about "where are the pictures"...What??? Ok, so this means, I will continue to enjoy the rest of my Cinnamon Crunch bagel with Hazelnut cream cheese along with a nice hot chocolate and whipped cream (which I NEVER would get if I weren't preggo), then putz around and meet Lindsey for lunch. THEN, later today when I get home and get some hard core work done I will attempt to re-post the pictures. So now- back to enjoying my hot (now warm) chocolate and surfing the net. Ta Ta!!

PS-The photo above is where I wish I were...oh to dream...

PS2-The Doc apt was great. Everything is going well and the "abnormalities" I have are going away. So, nothing to worry about! Yeah!!! I got a new photo of baby today. Cletus is still pretty small and I thought the head was the feet, but I guess I am still new at this so it's okay! (I took a picture of the picture on my camera phone so it is definately not good. To try and orientate you with what is what, the baby's head is to the bottom right and the spine arches upward. Right now babycakes is a little smaller then 5"! (No wonder my tum keeps getting bigger and bigger! See Mom and Sam- I told you it wasn't just the food!) Hee Hee!

16 Weeks

Yesterday Sam and I went to my 16 week appointment. I said that as soon as I hit 16 weeks I would start wearing all maternity clothes and not be worried about it. (I was desperately trying to stay into my work slacks...boy was that hard!!!) So, yesterday was the first time I wore maternity slacks to work- so comfy! Mom and Dad- thanks for the shirt- I received lots of compliments!

Everything went great at the apt and we even got to hear the little baby's heartbeat! Only for about 10 seconds, but that was pretty amazing! Sam later said he was sad because he had his hopes up that we would find out if it were a boy or girl. Sorry honey- next time! As most of you know, I didn't really want to know, but Sam does so we will find out. I am starting to get excited about finding out...I think it will make things a little more real! Yeah! Cheer's with my N/A beer (which I LOVE!!!) to 5 more months of great health for baby and me! (And I would also like to say a little cheers that maybe the swelling in my ankles will go down someday- it would be nice to see my ankle bones again...)

At Tribute to KGB

Today I am paying homage to my dear friend Kristin. We have been through so much more then many friends can ever imagine and we are still there for one another today. Kristin is one of the most amazing people I have ever met and has the heart of a Saint. From Bodeans concerts to "Dirty Knickers" in London we have seen it all! Kristin- you are a great Mom, fantastic wife (Jim told me!) and a dear, dear friend! I love you, girl! This is a card KGB sent me. The inside said... "Promise me we will stay as tight as
just-out-of-the-drier-jeans, and that we'll always be the best of friends!" I love the card because it is one of those things that I wish I had found for her!

There are SO many pic's of us, but I just put some from high school forward. I really did dig for some of those OLD ones, but couldn't find them fast enough! Some very special times in both our lives. I even got Jim's little face in there! (Check out the pic of KGB and I at graduation and look over KGB's shoulder...)

Babes In All Shapes and Sizes...

So- I promised my Auntie Loie and Parent's on both sides (Mine and Sam's) that I would get some photo's of my growing self onto this thing... so here ya go! The one with me in the brown shirt is the day I found out I was preggo- about 5 weeks ago. So I was 11 weeks pregnant there. The one with the white and peach shirt is from last week. This white shirt is the first time I wore a maternity shirt to work. (Thanks Kim!) I was about 14 weeks pregnant there. Now I am 15 weeks and the belly and baby continues to grow. (Yeah!)

Mom and Dad have been wanting updated photo's of Sophie and they say they can't tell how big she is when she is next to Mykah, so I am holding her the same way I did when she was only 7 weeks old. (I put both photo's for comparison's sake.) She went to the vet the other day and weighed 7.1# and when she was 7 weeks old she weighed 1.3#!!! Wow!

Mykah celebrated her 4th birthday yesterday! She is getting so old! :) She and Sophie get along so well- I am actually really suprised at how much they love each other and especially how much Mykah loves Sophie. They play all the time and if Mykah is tired of playing, she just hops up somewhere that Sophie isn't able to reach! They are too funny!

Memorial Weekend and Stuff

Had a great time over that weekend...finally getting around to posting about it! Sam and I hung out- he worked most of the weekend but we were able to go and hang out with Tim, Tammi and the boys Tanner made us all sit in a "train" and Evan just chilled-out. We had a great time and wished we could have stayed longer! Also that weekend- I think it was that weekend- I went to watch Landry compete in a hampster race- yes, a hampster race! That was pretty funny! I also ended up eating dinner with Kari, Tony and the kids later that night. It started raining and Tony let Landry run out to the edge of the property so she could get her little friends umbrella. She saved the day by bringing it back!

Good Samaritans

While coming home from my hubbies birthday lunch yesterday I spotted a fire in someone's yard. Being the unfamiliar person I am with controlled fires, I asked Samuel what they were doing, thinking for some strange reason this must be one of those controlled fires. He didn't know, so I suggested we go over to the house. When we got there Sam realized it was a grass fire and jumped out of the car and started stomping it out. (See Sam stomp...thank God for Camera phones!) It was about a 7 foot diameter circle and was growing pretty quickly with trees all around, so I decided to stomp away in my heals and do my deed. We were successful, so Sam went up to the resident's home to see if they were inside. They were not home. I then called 911 to report the fire and they sent the Fire Dept. out right away. As Sam and I stood there, sparks flew from the wires above the house and we saw that the fire was started from a tree branch that grew into the overhead wires! I wasn't exactly sure what to do, so before we called 911 I wrote a little note to the residents of the home. Sam took one look at it and said we couldn't leave it- it was written on a napkin (clean of course!)... Hey- what was I supposed to say? (See scan of napkin note.) I thought it was straight to the point! Anyhow, after the Fire Dept came, more sparks kept flying all over (See pic of firemen and Sam looking up) and we were given the go ahead to leave along with a nice pat-on-the-back for doing our civic duty. Hooray! Yeah for saving the big trees and house!

Happy Birthday Sammy!

So today is my Darlin's 30th Birthday! Yeah! Happy Birthday Dear... May your next 30+ be even more glorious then the first! We spent the day exactly as Sam wanted it---we went to lunch together then he played a lot of softball, then went out for pizza. While playing softball, Sam had an AWESOME game- he had a double header and in the first game they were down 2 runs with 2 1/2 minutes left in the game and gues what he did? Yup, he cracked one out of the field and brought home the two guys that were on 1st and 2nd as well as himself to make the winning run. GO SAMMY! (We also had a scary fire experience that I will blog about later...) He doesn't know it yet, although will in an hour or so, but I also bought an ice cream cake from Dairy Queen. (His favorite, my least favorite...now THAT'S love!)

Jenny and Al

In April Jenny and Al came to visit us- we had such a nice time! Jenny and I were sorority sisters, roomates, and most importantly we were and still are great friends. They came out here to visit Boulder and Sam and I! How lucky are we?! (And how un-lucky are they that they had to come to Chey-town???) It was awesome seeing you! Can't wait till next time!
